I, _______________, will accept the position of Literacy Coordinator for the Northeast Louisiana Reading Council as a school building representative. As the coordinator, I will disseminate information as I receive it from my Membership Director or others to encourage professional development and promote literacy in my school. I understand that I if I attend the NELRC’s Fall Meeting on Oct. 9, 2004, I will receive a $25.00 Wal-Mart Gift card if I am teaching in the parishes of Ouachita, West Carroll, Morehouse, Franklin, and Richland and am serving as literacy coordinator for the school participating in the Author’s Visit. These parishes are recipients due to their increase in membership and support of literacy in the 2003-2004 school year. The gift card is a literacy promotion incentive and a thank you from the council for promoting literacy. These parishes will also receive several $25.00 gift cards to purchase door prizes for the promotion of home/school activities.
If my parish was not included or did not meet any of the criteria, I will work toward achieving those goals during the upcoming year.
Some of the events that I will promote or delegate to others as needed include: 
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE (September is Focus month. Membership= July 1-June 30.) The first school with 100% membership receives $200 for 2 nights lodging at LRA conference in Lafayette. The teacher with his/her name on the most membership forms by Oct. 9 receives a $25.00 Wal-Mart gift card.
YOUNG AUTHORS CONTEST (All “parish” winner entries must be in to Janet’ Fisher prior to Christmas Holidays. NELRC ribbons and certificates will be presented at the Spring Meeting.
NEWSPAPER IN EDUCATION CONTEST (All “parish” winner entries must be in to Oscar Hamilton by April 15.   LRA trophies and medallions presented in July.
INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY Sept. 8
INTERNATIONAL PROJECT school supplies for Manila by Sept. 15 to Jennifer Willis.
NELRC’S FALL MEETING Oct. 9 @ ULM (Speaker- Author Mike Artell)
LRA CONFERENCE IN LAFAYETTE – Nov. 10-12 ($200 for 2 nights lodging for first school w/100% membership of teachers as verified by Membership Director, Membership Coordinator, and President.
LITERACY STUDY GROUP @ Books-A-Million Jan. 29 @10:00 A.M.
LITERACY WEEK Feb. 14-18 (Great LA Read-In)
NEWSPAPER IN EDUCATION WEEK March 7-11
PARENTS & READING WEEK April 4-8
READING PROMOTION PROJECT due @ Spring Meeting Apr. 16
NELRC’S SPRING MEETING April 16 @ ULM
Keep a copy of this form, take short notes of what you do for each event or take pictures, publish in newspaper, etc. Be sure to include the Northeast Louisiana Reading Council name in all literacy promotions. All documentation of literacy promotions for Honor Council should be submitted to Leah Biley by Feb. 1st.
** To receive grants or scholarships, one must be a member for at least 2 consecutive years and be a member of the IRA.
