While in my reading class, students will wear Dr. Seuss hats; create a rap using Dr. Seuss books; and perform for their classmates. There will be a celebration on the intercom to announce this special day. We will have a cake and decorations in our room to celebrate and take our pledge to continue reading.

Read Across America is such an inspirational week of reading fun and activities. Again this year our school participated in the Dr. Seuss fun. We had the celebration early this year so it would not conflict with state testing preparations. We have a different contest for each grade, such as making giant birthday cards, banners of everything that can be read, silliest hats, craziest shoes, Grinch-green day, parade of book characters, Dr. Seuss menus, etc. It is a huge week of "hype" for the children. They love the activities and all of the reading fun. If your school is not participating...come on and join in the FUN! Louisiana

I will invite parents and local business people to come and read their favorite Dr. Seuss books. And of course, each guest reader dons a red and white Seuss hat. Certificates will be posted on the door of each classroom that had a special reader. Sometimes high school students participate and they get as big a thrill out of this as do our children, because living in a small town, most of the high school students remember when we started this.

Each year, we invite our parents to join the children in listening to the reading of a Dr. Seuss book by a guest reader. We always get someone who is not involved in the day-to-day lives of our children (last year we had the Assistant Chancellor of the LTC-Lafayette campus). We also conduct a parent-child literacy activity and have a birthday cake for all to share. This year we are also planning to have someone dress as a Dr. Seuss character.
