The Northeast Louisiana Reading Council held its Spring Meeting on Saturday, April 17, 2004. Dr. Carrice Cummins, IRA board member presented awards for Reading Teacher of the Year (Leah Biley), Educator of the Year (Lynn Morris), Principal of the Year (Nancy Smith), Librarian of the Year (Melba Collum) and the (Kathy O'Neal) Celebrate Literacy Award. President Kathy O'Neal recognized five past presidents that were present: Janet Jones, Kathryn Vaughn, Vickie Green, Jackie Walters, & Kathy McDonald. Vice President Nancy Smith and Janet Jones recognized Kathryn Vaughn as Educator Emeritus. Young Author presentations were accepted by area school principal or teachers. Ms. Cheryl Garner (Past LRA president)had to leave early, so Dr. Cummins recognized Carolyn Harden as the Reading Promotion Project Winner. Ouachita Parish Membership Director Janet Fisher received a Boston fern from NELRC for the Reading Promotion Project Winner, and she presented it to Ms. Carolyn Harden. Officers for the 2004-2005 year were approved.
