Intellectual Freedom Committee
Charges:
1. Monitor, on a regular basis, challenges to intellectual freedom related to literacy and attempts to censor and restrict access to literacy materials.
2. Prepare an updated list of resources currently available within the Council for preserving and promoting intellectual freedom; determine the adequacy of those resources; and recommend a plan for achieving any needed resources. Prepare a report of the results of this evaluation/planning at the spring and fall meetings.
3. Communicate with the American Library Association, the National Council of Teachers of English, and other professional groups concerned about intellectual freedom, particularly as related to literacy, inquiring about the relevant resources available through those groups and about possible joint ventures.
